Qualcomm is a well-known name in the mobile industry. Its chips are high performing. Now Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon 675.
In an event, company precedent introduced OnePlus as one of the first companies to implement a 5G smartphone. These smartphones will come with the Snapdragon X50 modem. The company also unveiled the mid-range gaming-based Snapdragon 675 chipset.
The company targeted mainly three areas like gaming, photography, and artificial intelligence (AI) with Snapdragon 675 SoC.
In a press statement, Vice President of Product Management, Qualcomm Technologies, Kedar Kondap said: “Packed with advanced gaming abilities, remarkable camera performance, and a multi-core AI Engine, Snapdragon 675 based smartphones will bring new experiences to consumers globally”.
This processor contains Kryo 460 cores with the improved processor. Kryo 460 CPU that packs with an octa-core processing unit. In this 8 core, two cores of Cortex-A76 and six cores of Cortex-A55. The Snapdragon 675 based on 11nm technology.
This new chip packed with advanced AI. There is also support for Qualcomm Neural Processing Engine SDK. It also supports framework compatibility with TensorFlow, TensorFlow Lite, Caffe, Caffe2 so that you can experience a wide range of AI experiences.
The chip has support for the third-generation Qualcomm AI Engine and voice activation with machine learning algorithms. Users can except 50 percent overall improvements in AI applications than the previous Snapdragon 670. It capable of working with multiple voice assistants.
As the gaming is on trend, Snapdragon made this for gaming also. To deliver the best gaming experiences, the Snapdragon 675 SoC uses Adreno 612 GPU. This supports Vulkan, Open CL 2.0, OpenGL ES 3.2, and DirectX 12. There is also USB Type-C compatibility for 4K video playback support. The gaming optimization seems to be like Huawei’s GPU Turbo optimizations.
For online games, the chip also has Snapdragon X12 LTE modem. It supports up to 600Mbps LTE connectivity. The new chip also supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4+ technology.
We know already that, the Snapdragon 675 is the improved version of Snapdragon 670 SoC. So it offers 15 percent faster social media launch, 20 percent faster music launch, 30 percent faster game launch time, 35 percent faster Web browsing.
Snapdragon also boosted the camera capabilities. Now the chipset supports triple cameras up to 16 MP. Snapdragon 675 supports a triple camera set up in the front or back. It also supports camera features such as portrait mode, telephoto, wide angle, and super-wide image capture.
Here are some camera highlights.
For videos, it has Ultra-HD (4K at 30fps) video recording support. It also AI power and can detect Motion Compensated Temporal Filtering and HD (720p) video recording at 480fps.
Qualcomm claims this chip also can secure mobile payment and works with technologies such as sensitive, Thundersoft, Megvii (Face++), NetEase, and Trio.AI.
The new Snapdragon 675 mainly targets the mid-range phones. So we can expect better performance at a lower price. We will see and update the benchmark test reports of this chip latter.
Qualcomm expects the new Snapdragon will debut into consumer phones in the first quarter of 2019. So it is interesting to see that what will be the first phone that packs with Snapdragon 675.
