MediaTek powers many mid-range phones and a known name in this industry. MediaTek has announced the Helio P70 system-on-chip (SoC).
It is the polished version of AI-centric P60 chipset with some enhanced features. A few days ago, we heard a lot of rumored that MediaTek would release an advanced SoC before October ends. So here it is, Helio P70.
The main focus is on an enhanced AI engine. It combined with CPU and GPU upgrades so that you will get more powerful AI processing.
Helio P70 also packed with upgraded imaging and camera support, a gaming performance boost and advanced connectivity features.
The new Helio P70 chipset is built on the same 12nm process. It bears four ARM Cortex-A53 cores clocked at up to 2.0GHz and four ARM Cortex-A73 cores clocked at up to 2.1GHz. These are arranged in an octa-core big.LITTLE configuration.
The Helio P70 has an improved Arm Mali-G72 MP3 GPU operating at up to 900 MHz for a power boost. Overall It provides a 13 percent performance improvement as compared to Helio P60.
As an enhanced version than Helio P60, you will get the following features.
Enhanced AI engine
As the world is running after AI, MediaTek also preparing their processors according to that.
Helio P70 will give 10 to 30 percent AI processing boost as compared to the Helio P60. This means Helio P70 can support more complex AI applications like AI based video encoding and real-time human pose recognition.
MediaTek’s Enhanced AI video encoder will give you enhance video call quality even in the low internet speed. This is applicable to Skype calls, YouTube lives video streaming and Facebook video calls.
Fluid gaming experience
MediaTek Helio P70 has a faster GPU (ARM Mali-G72 MP3 @ 900MHz), faster big ARM cores. It is optimized for the latest multi-threaded games. This combination of these gives a fluid gaming experience.
The Helio P70 claims it uses 35% less power in most popular games compared to the P60. There is a thermal management solution named Energy Aware Scheduling+. It claims to lower operating temperature during long gaming sessions.
High-performance camera features
New Helio P70 comes with a variety of AI-infused photo and video experiences. This includes artificial reality (AR), scene detection and real-time beautification capabilities.
The chipset uses advance deep-learning facial detection technology. It claims that it will give 90 percent accuracy. Helio P70 gives device makers more design flexibility. This supports a super-sized 32MP single camera or 24+16MP dual cameras.
Its three advance ISPs are crafted to provide significant power savings. It reduces power consumption up to 18 percent as compared to previous Helio P60 dual-camera setups.
It also supports many methods for PDAF, HDR, multi-frame noise reduction, MEMA 3DNR, and a long list of other performance improvements in existing operations.
Helio P70 comes with a 4G LTE modem with 300MBit/s download performance. It also supports dual 4G VoLTE support. MediaTek’s uses smart antenna technology which automatically uses the best antenna combination to provide the best signal quality.

It is expected to be available of Helio P70 in consumer devices by November of this year. It will target India and China market first.
MediaTek is targeting mid-range devices with this Helio P70 at price range of $300-400.
It’ll be interesting to see how the Helio P70 compete against up against the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 and 710 in benchmark tests and real-world use.
