Google Pixel 3 XL Review 2018
First of all, moving into the basics, the back of this device feels like a mirror finish. Of course, it is a two-tone glass which is polished to perfection.
Further, the Google Pixel 3 XL comes with a glossy coated metallic sides which feels quite luxurious and smooth in the hands.
Moreover, with the Google Pixel 3 having glass back panels, the surface becomes slippery sometimes and you will need a case, for sure.
Coming down to handling, yes it’s a slight challenge but its 184gms weight is much lighter than the iPhone XS Max and the Samsung Galaxy Note 9.
Google Pixel 3 XL Screen
The Pixel 3 xl like any other big Smartphone comes with a massive 6.3-inch screen. Here, the screen appears vibrant, crisp and you will find no issues in the viewing angles.
Further, in our Google Pixel 3 hands-on, we tested the screen from different angles and yet, the display passed this test, quite easily.
However, if you will look on the upper side, a massive notch awaits your presence.
Still, it comes with a dual selfie camera and speaker which is fairly loud enough.
Keeping the notch debate aside, still, we feel that the notch is a lot more on the bigger side consuming much of the body to screen ratio.
Hence, while viewing your favorite videos, you can see major content cutting if you want to view videos in super full-screen mode.
What about the notifications on Google Pixel 3?
Well, when it comes to notifications icon, all of them have to fit in a small-area aside the notch.
Since there are other brands who are being affected by this problem, Google pixel 3 XL stands as the prime one.
Google Pixel 3 XL Processor
Since Google Pixel 3 XL is the latest phone from Google, it is bound to come with the latest processor, Right?
Hence, the pixel 3 xl comes with the latest Snapdragon 845 SoC which is being used in the One Plus 6, Note 9 and Huawei’s top-end phones.
Thus, in terms of performance, you will face no issue and every game, apps will run quite flawlessly, for sure.
Also, in multi-tasking, pixel 3’s smart AI management will make it easier to browse between apps.
Google Pixel 3 XL Battery Life
Well, in terms of the battery life, the pixel 3 xl seems to be a lot more similar to the pixel 3.
Here, as per our testing, the Google Pixel 3 XL managed just over 24 hours with a onetime charge.
Although, the thing is quite decent and you can perform all your daily activities, play games quite comfortably.
Now, giving you my level of testing, given below are the set of things which I did with the Pixel 3:
- Send and Receive Hundreds of Emails
- Listened to Music for over 5 hours using Bluetooth Headphones
- Watched 30 minutes of Videos on Netflix
- Shoot 10 photos
Hence, even after doing the above activities, the Google Pixel 3 managed to give me a full-day battery backup.
Thus, in case if you are a light user, you can witness a couple of more hour’s daily usage on the pixel 3 xl.
What about the charging on Google Pixel 3 XL?
On the pixel 3 XL, you will get to see Type C port and yes, the charging is pretty fast.
On the other hand, if you want to charge your device wirelessly, you can make use of the Pixel Stand Wireless Charger but it is only limited to 5W.
The camera on the Google Pixel 3 XL
As we have seen in the smaller siblings, the pixel 3 xl packs in the same camera itself. The rear camera comes with a 12.2MP whereas the front camera packs-in an 8MP sensor.
Although you may find it too less, images taken by pixel 3 xl are beyond par. Ranging from colour clarity to saturation levels, everything was par excellence.
In addition, the pixel 3 XL comes with a super-res zoom which is a type of an enhanced digital zoom.
Further, its on-device AI-powered Top shot advisor helps to capture multiple frames before you even hit the shutter button.
Finally, the portrait mode looks quite amazing on the Google Pixel 3 XL.
Despite the lack of a secondary camera on the back, pixel 3 xl is smart enough to click portrait shots, with ease and precision.
Google Pixel 3 XL Comes With Android Pie
Well, for every Google Phone lover, demanding for the latest Android version has become a necessity.
Every single time, Google launched their latest Smartphone, the company includes the latest Android version, without any hiccups.
Hence, on the Google Pixel 3 XL, it comes with the latest Android 9 Pie whereas you will get to see tons of functionality.
Whereas, you will get to see gesture controls replacing the back, home and overview navigational buttons.
In addition, Gmail’s latest smart compose on mobile will take email to the next level.
Further, Gboard comes with the one-handed typing mode and the gesture button is truly placed at convenience.
Overall, Android 9 on Google Pixel 3 XL is one of the most amazing version you will ever get on an Android Smartphone.
Well, the pixel stand is an optional accessory in case if you want to charge your smartphone on a wireless basis.
Here, the stand will come at a pricing of £69 and comes with two unique features.
The first feature is to charge Google Pixel 3 XL at 10W. Whereas, the third party wireless charges can charge the Google Pixel 3 and XL at 5W.
Moving ahead, the second feature is that it converts the Smartphone into a portrait Google Assistant smart display similar to Google Home Hub.
As and when you will put the phone on the stand, it launches Google Assistant which will display time, date and notifications as usual.
In addition, it also enables smart speakers which will wake up as and when you will call “Hey Google”.
To be frank, it works pretty well enough and if you can buy the same, it’s a “YES:” from my side.
