Oppo is one of the world’s leading smartphone brands, equipped with high-quality camera phones and advanced mobile photography technology, which is used over 200 million worldwide. Oppo started life in 2001 (By BBK Electronics) and the early days made a name for itself by selling high-quality Blu-ray players, amplifiers and headphones.
Its entry into the phone business was in 2012, which came quite late in the game. Nevertheless, the company grew rapidly, becoming the top smartphone brand in China in 2019 and ranked No. 5 worldwide.
Oppo was the first brand to offer smartphones with 5MP (megapixels) and 16MP front cameras, along with other innovations in the category, and continue to appeal to the target audience of young consumers with the popular, high-quality camera phones such as the powerful Oppo Reno 10X zoom Pro and Oppo F15 selfie experts.

BBK Electronics is a Chinese multinational corporation, it owns several popular brands in various consumer electronics markets, including headphones, smartphones, and Blu-ray players. BBK Electronics is the world’s second-largest phone manufacturer, which holds four brands under its name namely OPPO, Vivo, OnePlus and Realme are parts of BBK.
The mobile handset that no one can know that OPPO produced was R819 / R819T. While the handsets that you must have heard are under the Find, N and R series. The N1 was the world’s first handset that came with a rotating camera that can be used as back or rear and that’s when the camera dedicated N Series was born in December 2013.
After that next year in March, the company launched the Find 7a and then Find 7, the later sported the world’s first Quad HD (2560 x 1440) display, which was available in May 2014. Later in October that year, the company announced its design-focused smartphone, the R5, the thinnest smartphone of the year, measuring just 4.9 mm.
In June 2019 Oppo Reno 10x Zoom represents its first concerted effort to break into Western markets – and with the Reno 10x Zoom it does so with style. The Oppo Reno 10x zoom is a decidedly high-mid-range handset, with an attractive pop-up selfie camera, state-of-the-art chipset, and a competitive camera lineup.
Oppo Reno Ace is the world’s fastest-charging phone. Which is capable of fully loading its 4,000mAh battery in just 31 minutes and 31 seconds. Within the next 8 months, Oppo released it Reno 3 pro which is a fifth-generation smartphone equipped with a rear quad camera and interesting triangular pop-up camera like Reno 10X Zoom.
These series were upgraded in the coming year and thanks to that the brand is listed among the top five smartphone brands in the world, replacing the likes of Lenovo and Xiaomi. Considered as a premium smartphone manufacturer, Oppo relies on the strong offline retailer network that it has built indigenously.
The brand started its international expansion in 2010 starting with Thailand, where the brand first announced Find 3 and then later showcased the Find 5, which was followed by the Find 7.
In parallel, the company expanded its presence in countries like the Philippines, Myanmar, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and many more regions. The company operates locally in these regions catering to the needs according to the audience.
Presence in India
OPPO officially entered India on 27 January 2014, and the Find 7 was the first handset that was launched in the country. The brand then moved to launch several handsets including Mirror 3, N1, N1 Mini, Joy, Joy Plus, Neo 3, R5, R7, and R7 Lite.
Recently, the company has launched its new series, the Reno 3 Pro, which is a fifth-generation smartphone equipped with a rear quad camera and interesting triangular pop-up camera like Reno 10X Zoom. The brand has been focused on launching premium quality handsets in the country since its official operations.
To move forward with its plans in India, they have dedicated a promise to start manufacturing in India under the Make in India campaign run by the Indian government. There is an ongoing investment of ₹2,200 crores in the country and the company is currently manufacturing 50 million smartphones in a year at its Greater Noida factory.
Headphones and amplifiers
In 2014, Oppo released several high-end headphones and amplifiers. The major PM-1 and PM-2 headphones, as well as the HA-1 desktop amplifier, have been heavily promoted in the audio community. The PM-1 is one of the perfect headphones made by Oppo within the competitive price range.
The HA-2 was released in 2015 which is a portable version of the HA-1 amp / DAC that features a battery pack option as well as a stitched leather cover. The phone played music via the HA-2 (Android Micro USB cable or iOS Lightning cable, or USB cable from PC) in real-time.
It can also be charged using the “Rapid Charger” charging kit included. In October 2016, an updated version was released with a new DAC chip and is now named HA-2SE. Otherwise, it was very similar to HA-2.

If you scoff at the mention of a notch above, Find X offers an alternative route – a pop-up camera powered by a motor. The experience of the N3 would have helped a lot when designing this phone. Find X also has a 3D sensor (using different technology, structured lighting) for 3D face scanning as an alternative to fingerprint readers.
Oppo is not afraid to experiment with new features and has consistently been one of the most innovative smartphone companies and has scored several “firsts” over the past 8 years.
